The Challenge

A leading private school in Brisbane needed to train over 180 teachers and support staff in First Aid and CPR — all in a single day. Managing that scale while maintaining engagement, accuracy, and compliance posed a significant challenge.

Cause for Change

The school’s previous training provider struggled to deliver the level of quality and consistency expected. Feedback from staff revealed outdated delivery methods, minimal practical engagement, and assessment inconsistencies. The WHS Advisor sought a provider that could deliver relevant, high-impact, scenario-based training to better prepare staff for real-world First Aid incidents.

Process of Change

The school had already partnered with Life International Training (LIT) for Fire Safety Advisory and Emergency Training, and had been impressed with their professionalism and service quality.

After hearing about the challenges with First Aid training, Trent Young from LIT reached out to discuss a tailored solution. He invited the WHS Advisor to attend a public First Aid course as a demonstration. The course immediately stood out for its electronic CPR mannequins, scenario-driven assessments, and trainers with real clinical backgrounds in emergency response and pre-hospital care. The decision to transition all First Aid training to LIT followed soon after.

Implementation

LIT coordinated the entire process, starting with online enrolments and theory assessments for all staff. The WHS Advisor worked closely with Trent and his team to ensure every participant completed the pre-course requirements before the practical day.

On training day, six experienced clinicians delivered hands-on, scenario-based instruction:

Morning: 180 staff completed CPR skill stations and assessments.

Afternoon: 60 staff requiring HLTAID012 undertook additional scenario work and assessment.

Each session was customised to reflect school-specific environments, including sports facilities, outdoor learning, and camps — making every skill directly applicable to staff roles.

The Results

The feedback was outstanding. Staff described the session as:

Even the school nurse noted the depth of clinical detail exceeded expectations. Many staff were so impressed they purchased First Aid resources for personal use.
